He Had No Name..
This puppy had no name. He was just a number at the shelter, among many other dogs with numbers instead of names. I went to pick him up today (Nov. 17th 2014) so he could go to a rescue this weekend. Instead, I found him dead in his kennel. He died alone on a cold, wet cement floor.
I had tried to get to the shelter late last week to get him but my work schedule and no room at my house for one more prevented that.
Part of the reason for this post is to say that fostering makes a difference. It definitely would have in this case, and maybe this baby would have gotten out of the shelter in time to get medical treatment. If you can, please consider fostering. More adoptable pets die during the holidays than any other time of year.
But more importantly, I want to remember him, and posting him here keeps him real to me. And I want people to know that this puppy, like thousands of others, matters. They are not just numbers.
His name, given too late, is Sampson.
